What is Level 3A Body Armor?
Level IIIA body armor is armor that defeats a 125 grain .357 Sig FMJ (FN) with a muzzle velocity of under 1,470 ft/second, according to the National Institute of Justice.
Level IIIA body armor plates also defeat a .44 Magnum SJHP (Semi Jacketed Hollow Point) at up to 240 grains, traveling less than 1,430 ft/second.
RMA’s 0226 Level IIIA body armor plate is also an effective form of lightweight ballistic protection in backpacks.
Level IIIA soft body armor is also an option for protection on the torso and sides. RMA boasts three different lightweight concealable soft products, all of which are NIJ .06 Certified. The Contego, Protego, and Virtus soft armor vests are NIJ Certified. And, they maximize coverage thanks to their flexible construction.
RMA’s 0214 panels are IIIA-rated. Even though they defeat the majority of common handgun rounds, these flexible panels remain extremely thin and lightweight. It’s the perfect on or off-body EDC companion.
What Does Level IIIA Body Armor Stop?
Level IIIA body armor defeats all common handgun rounds. NIJ specifically tests IIIA armor plates against the .357 Sig and .44 Magnum. However, it’s also capable of defeating 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP and other common handgun rounds.
