RMA’s 10×12 trauma pad utilizes lightweight foam padding that decreases back face deformation and dissipates impact energy, reducing transmitted force. These body armor Trauma Pads are NON-BALLISTIC.
Not only does a trauma pad reduce energy transfer, but they also greatly increase comfort for whomever is wearing body armor. The trauma pad reduces blunt force trauma by absorbing energy over the surface area.
Back face deformation has the potential to occur when a round impacts any type of body armor. This energy transfer has the potential to be felt regardless of which body armor ballistic panel you decide to protect yourself with. Though most of our ar500 and ar550 steel body armor has inherently good energy disbursing properties throughout the strike face, our trauma pads will further mitigate energy transfer and back face deformation hazards which your body may absorb.

TRAUMA PAD FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Trauma Pad?
A trauma pad is utilized behind your body armor plate to reduce or mitigate the transfer of blunt force energy from a bullet after it strikes a body armor plate. While the main goal of body armor is to defeat the round that strikes it as well as minimize that backface deformation, the left over energy from the bullet can still be felt by the wearer. Because of that, some people feel its necessary to use trauma pads to further reduce the impact of the energy that impacts your body.
The main goal of a trauma pad is to decrease the risk of injury to the wearer of the body armor.
Do I need to wear a trauma pad?
For anyone who owns or will be purchasing steel body armor (ar500, ar550, etc), we highly recommend the use of a trauma plate, as steel body armor doesn’t boast a built in composite backplate to reduce energy transfer like a ceramic/composite plate does. On a Ceramic body armor plate with a UHMWPE backer, the polyethylene backer does much of the work to reduce the backface deformation and mitigate energy transfer to the body. Can a trauma pad help mitigate some blunt force energy transfer on a level 4 body armor plate, for example? Sure, but it’s not nearly as essential as it is for a steel plate that does not have a backplate built into it.
